Transportation

By train

The Department is about a 30 minute walk from the rail station (taxis are available outside the station). A direct service operated between Oxford and London Paddington and London Marylebone (approximately every 30 minutes), and between Oxford and Birmingham New Street via Banbury and Coventry. Other services operate from the north via Birmingham New Street; from the south via Reading; and from the west via Didcot or Reading. For more information, please visit the National Rail website.

By coach/bus

The Department is about a 15-20 minute walk from the bus and coach station (taxis are available at the adjacent Gloucester Green market square). There are two frequent, 24-hour direct services that connect Oxford with London (every 10-20 minutes during peak times): The Oxford Tube service includes Victoria Station, Grosvenor Gardens, Marble Arch, Notting Hill Gate, Shepherd’s Bush, and Hillingdon. The X90 service includes Victoria Coach Station, Grosvenor Gardens, Marble Arch, and Baker Street.

By car

Many Oxford streets are now closed to traffic and parking is severely limited. Unfortunately there is no parking available at the Department of Education, although there is some paid on-street parking at Norham Gardens. Visitors are encouraged to use the Park and Ride bus services, which operate between the city centre and parking areas. The most convenient services for this location are from the Pear Tree and Water Eaton car parks. For more information on parking in Oxford, please visit the Oxfordshire County Council website.

From the airport

London Heathrow is the closest international airport to Oxford. The easiest and cheapest way to get to Oxford from the airport is to take a bus/coach. Heathrow and Gatwick Airport are linked to Oxford by The Airline coach company, which operates 24 hours a day. Stansted Airport and Luton Airport are linked to Oxford by the National Express 737, which runs approximately every 2-3 hours.

The Department of Education is located on the north end of the city centre, with easy access to many of the hotels and B&Bs in Oxford.

Three hotels within very close walking distance are the Cotswold Lodge Hotel, the Best Western Plus Linton Lodge, and the Parklands B&B. There are more hotels closer to the city centre, which is about a 20 minute walk or 10 minute taxi ride from the venue.
